Charis Annual Peterborough Community Award
The Charis Annual Peterborough Community Award was established in 2011 by Charis. The annual award is presented to a Peterborough based charity or voluntary group that offers services to support vulnerable members of society in Peterborough.
The Fund is supported by a capital sum that has been enhanced by a government match under the Community First Programme. Each year this invested sum produces income that adds to the money in the Fund and is available to make an Award.
Awards
The 2015 Award went to Light Project Peterborough towards provision of a winter night shelter for up to 8 homeless people from early December until end of February. Light Project Peterborough has identified a need to provide additional capacity to the already stretched statutory provision within Peterborough for the homeless. They are working in conjunction with Peterborough City Council and the New Haven Night Shelter to provide extra beds over the worst 3 months of the year.
The 2014 Award went to Peterborough Women's Aid to support a new service for children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse (indirectly and directly).
The 2013 Award went to Hope into Action East of England to help meet some of the needs of the homeless people living in their Peterborough properties.
The 2012 Award went to Peterborough Volunteer Centre towards a self-development project that helped to identify and address barriers people face on their journey to successful employment.
