Leaving a Legacy

Giving via a Legacy

Many people think of leaving money to charity in their Wills but often find it hard to choose between the many charities available. If there is interest to help local community projects, your local Community Foundation can provide a route for your gift to reach local projects of interest to you.

A legacy left to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation will be invested, with the annual income used to make grants year after year. Your gift will, therefore, keep on giving as it remains as a permanent pot of money at the Community Foundation.

Smaller legacies will be incorporated into our Fund for Cambridgeshire which supports social and community activities and projects throughout the county. A larger legacy (of £15,000 or more) can create a Named Fund which would be used to precisely fulfill your charitable wishes in perpetuity. Alternatively, you may wish to leave a bequest to help us with our work generally.

Legacy funds have no inheritance tax liability, saving your estate up to 40% in tax. In addition, a lower rate of inheritance tax (IHT) of 36%, applies for deaths on or after 6 April 2012, where a legacy of at least 10% of the estate is left to charity.

We have a simple template to agree with you how you would wish your fund to operate, so the process is easy and quick to arrange.
