Rowan - Creating Art and Friendship

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Rowan is a Cambridge based charity and arts centre that brings artists and learning-disabled people together in the production of fine artwork and crafts; while providing opportunities for self-expression and creative exploration.

Usman said about Rowan: "I meet all my friends and I think everyone’s really nice and I enjoy making things!"

Since 2010, Rowan have been awarded 7 grants through CCF.

In 2010, Rowan were awarded a grant from the Microsoft Research Limited Fund to run a series of art workshops for adults with learning disabilities as part of the Big Draw Campaign 2010.  "Rowan students were able to participate in, and benefit from, an art activity that they would not normally be able to attend."

In 2011, another grant was awarded for activities taking place as part of the Big Draw Campaign 2011.  Funding for this grant was awarded by the Microsoft Research Limited Fund and the Seymour Charitable Fund.

In 2012, two grants were awarded to Rowan from the Cambridge City Council Area Committee Grants.  One grant was used to run a hands-on art event for visitors to the Chesterton Festival.  The seconds was used towards the Winter Warmer and Open Studio events run by Rowan.

Rowan were also awarded a grant in 2012 from the Cambridge City South Cambs Reward Grant Scheme. The grant was used to continue to provide facilities for arts and craft for people with learning disabilities.

In September 2014, Rowan were awarded a small grant from the Seymour Fund.

Des Trollip, Operations Manager at Rowan says “A small grant makes a big difference to a small charity like Rowan. Our most recent CCF grant is buying printmaking equipment our students will love working with and use to produce beautiful art work"
